This week we have started Phase 4 of our Little Wandle Phonics program. The children have been learning how to read and spell words with 4 phonemes (CVCC words) like tent, lamp and thump. These words can be more challenging for children as they find it harder to blend/segment the adjacent consonants so extra practise at home is essential.
We continue to follow our reading mantra and it will be useful for you to apply the same approach at home too:
Spot the digraph(s)
Say the sounds
Blend to read
This week, please could you practise reading and spelling the following words and captions at home:
went hump best thump
help lamp gift tenth
tent jump nest belt
wind lift soft sixth
hand band lost fact
lump just pond
This week we have learned 4 new tricky words: so said have like. We have identified the tricky parts of each word below for you but at home the best way to practise is to create flashcards and practise learning the whole words by sight.
