Year 5

A huge welcome to Year 5's class page!

This year, Year 5 are also called Morpurgo Class after the wonderful author, Michael Morpurgo, our adopted class author. Helping your child shine in Y5 is Miss Howlett, Mr Rickson, Ms Arif and Mrs Monsarratt.

We have lots of things to look forward over the coming months: new and exciting adventures, fantastic trips, and hopefully our residential to Whitby later in the school year.

Below you will be able to find a copy of our newsletters and our knowledge organisers. This is where you can find out all about the learning your child will be doing and how you can help. If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to come speak to us.

To give our 'Space' topic a wowzer start, we visited the extraordinary Discovery Centre - a huge warehouse containing over a million objects belonging to Leeds Museums. We handled meteorites, listed the planets in order and were treated to a quick peek around the vault. Butterflies, hyenas, gorillas and old toys- they're all there!

We have been looking at North American landmarks. Athena went home and built her own Hollywood sign! Lights, camera, action...

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations - May 26th 2022

Summer Term 1

This term's learning:

Going the extra (nautical) mile! These fabulous Viking longboats were made at home and completed voluntarily as extra homework. Well done to our two superstars.

Every day is a great day for hockey! Year 5 showed off their teamwork skills, their resilience and respect for other players - making us very proud teachers!

We used Digimaps to revisit our Whitby trip, measuring the surface area of Pannett Park and calculating how far we walked each day.

Life Cycles! We have looked at plant reproduction and dissected flowers in Science.

NSPCC Number Day - Friday 4th February. Look at our number-inspired outfits!

Maths Week England! Year 5 had fun investigating parabolas.

Our Anglo-Saxon Day at Temple Newsam, November 4th. We had a fantastic day, learning how to turn wheat into flour and make bread. Followed by a session on Anglo-Saxon sword and self defence techniques. We also got the chance to look round the farm. A great day, despite the cold!

The members of the Leodis tribe building a shield wall!
