Spring 2

Newsletter and Knowledge Organisers -

To start our learning off, we were given some magic beans from Jack (Jack and the beanstalk). We planted them and can’t wait to see what they turn into! We then wrote an advert for other people to buy the magic beans.

To introduce our topic of plants, we had a fun packed afternoon! We went outside and took pictures of any flowers or trees we could see, we then wrote down what their names were. In groups, we then picked some seeds and planted them. We decided where they would go in the classroom and now we have a competition to see whose will grow the tallest!

In our music lessons we have been learning about pitch. We had our own “pitch pencils” and had to wave our fingers in different patterns to make different sounds.

In our history lesson we learnt about Christopher Columbus. We found out what a timeline is and then were all given an important year from Christopher’s life. We then drew a picture to represent this and put all of them together to create our own timeline!

Yummy pancakes for pancake day!!

We had so much fun at Harlow Carr! It was a beautiful sunny day and we got to explore the grounds and find different flowers. We then had a workshop where we planted our own pea shoots.

We had so much fun on World Book Day! We dressed as different characters or wore our cosy pjs. We got to read with Year 5 which was so much fun too.

Today in Year 1, we explored flowers! We cut them, smelt them, examined them with a magnifying glass, and even labelled their parts. A fantastic hands-on learning experience.

Happy British Science Week! We completed two experiments, the first was the famous mentos and coke - we couldn’t believe what happened! We then mixed baking soda and food colouring in a lemon and watched as a volcano happened!

In our PSHE lesson we learnt about feelings and how even though two people can be feeling the same emotion, they could show it differently. We thought about different situations and how people may feel differently about it to one another. We then had faces and created our own emotions. We also played a match the feeling to the face game!
