Nursery Spring 1

 Rhyme Time!

During our phonic sessions this half-term we are currently focusing on 'Rhyme' in Nursery. This is a really tricky concept for young children to learn, and they need lots of exposure to rhymes and playing rhyming games to be secure in this area of phonics. It would be really beneficial if you could support your child at home with this. This could be by reading rhyming books, making silly rhyming strings or singing nursery rhymes.

Three Stages of Rhyming

Stage 1- Hearing Rhyme
The child grows accustomed to hearing and repeating rhyme.
Stage 2- Recognising Rhyme
The child and identity two words which rhyme.
Stage 3 Producing Rhyme
The child can think of a word that rhymes with another.
Below are some examples of rhyming books.

Wanderlust Study- Rainbows

We follow the Wanderlust nature study and have been learning all about Rainbows. We talked about how they are formed, and the children amazed us with how much they knew. We then sang the rainbow song using sign language.
The children then enjoyed being scientist and making their own rainbows.

Parental Engagement

Thank you to everyone who came to our reading cafes this month. It has been wonderful welcoming so many families.

Number Studies

We have been continuing our number studies and have been learning all about the number 4. We made our own collection of 4 and then looked at different compositions of four. We added our pictures and photographs to our number floor book.

Ian's Mobile Farm

We were so lucky to have Ian and his mobile farm come to visit us. The children were so excited and couldn't wait to stoke, feed and brush the animals. We saw a rabbit, guinea pig, sheep, donkey, duck, hen, alpacas, and goats. Everyone loved Meg the sheepdog and loved watching her do some tricks!

Number Day 2026

Number day was lots of fun in Nursery. We sang lots of number songs, decorated biscuits, making numbers with sprinkles, printed with numicon, explored lots of number resources and did lots of subitiising! The children looked amazing and despite the rain we had a wonderful day!
