During our phonic sessions this half-term we are currently focusing on 'Rhyme' in Nursery. This is a really tricky concept for young children to learn, and they need lots of exposure to rhymes and playing rhyming games to be secure in this area of phonics. It would be really beneficial if you could support your child at home with this. This could be by reading rhyming books, making silly rhyming strings or singing nursery rhymes.
Three Stages of Rhyming
Stage 1- Hearing Rhyme
The child grows accustomed to hearing and repeating rhyme.
Stage 2- Recognising Rhyme
The child and identity two words which rhyme.
Stage 3 Producing Rhyme
The child can think of a word that rhymes with another.
Below are some examples of rhyming books.
