The class enjoyed an exciting visit from Katie in the ambulance service, who explained the role of emergency services—including coastguards—and demonstrated the equipment and uniform she uses. She taught the children the importance of knowing personal information, such as their address, and asked what number to call in an emergency (Luna correctly answered 999). The children discussed different types of emergencies ambulances attend and tried on uniforms to learn why each service wears different colours. They explored the ambulance in small groups, sitting in the driver’s seat, testing the patient bed, and seeing the equipment and flashing lights. Katie also introduced the What3Words app, which helps emergency services locate people quickly. Finally, the children were given a home challenge to learn their house number and street name as part of their learning about people who help us. 🚑🚓🚒
