Y1 Autumn 1

We loved the Halloween disco! Look how amazing our outfits are!

We had a hygiene workshop today where we learnt all about washing hands and the importance of staying clean!

Year One had the best time today! We had Creature Ark come in and visit us. They taught us about the animal groups and we got to hold a snake, hedgehog, spider, cockroach and a snail!

We have been very busy in provision this week! We have been practising our capital letters, creating faces out of natural materials and furthering our learning!

In our Maths learning, we have been looking at the number line. We had a practical lesson where  we had to fill in the missing number on a number line. We then had to use counters and cubes to show that amount.

As part of our Science learning, we learnt about our senses. We went on a senses hunt around school and heard the chickens, smelt lunch being made and saw lots of people! In the classroom, we were given lots of things to explore with our senses. We then had to close our eyes and were given things to guess what they were using our other senses. We all guessed a biscuit correctly!

Continuing with our work with Monkey Puzzle, we looked at adjectives. We first discovered what an adjective was and then were given an animal from the story, and we had to describe it.

In Maths, we have been looking at using counters to represent objects. We were given natural materials and then had to use chalk to draw counters to represent numbers using a big tens frame.

We have settled into Year One really well and have loved our new provision areas! We have been creating new places with the blocks, using our motor skills to rip paper to make rainbows and used natural materials to create amazing masterpieces.

In our writing lessons we have been looking at nouns. We read our class book of "Monkey Puzzle" and then had to try and find as many nouns as we could in the story!

We have been learning about old toys in our History lessons. We had the opportunity to play with old toys such as wooden clowns, a flip book, old teddies and bat and ball!

Below is our newsletter and knowledge organisers for this half-term.
