Reception Autumn 1

A very warm welcome to all our families! It has been wonderful to see how well the children have settled into Reception; they have made a great start and we are really looking forward to the year ahead!

Below are some photos of the children having lots of fun exploring their new environment both inside and outside.

Over the last few weeks, the children have loved making cards in provision and posting them in our class post box. This interest was inspired when we were learning the 'c' phoneme in phonics.

To follow this interest, we have been learning what happens to a letter when it is put in the post box.

We have learnt new vocabulary - address, postcode and stamp and we have learnt why these are important to include on a letter to ensure it goes to the right person.

To really bring our learning to life, we walked to the post box on Farm Road and the children posted their own letter to send home. We were so proud of how sensible the children were on their first walk out of school. They did excellent listening and remembered how we stay safe when crossing the road. The children are excited to receive their letters!

‘A moving child is a learning child’. Our Early Years Curriculum is centred around the provision we make to promote physical development, as we recognise this Prime Area of Learning contributes significantly towards children’s cognitive development.

Before children are ready to write, we recognise they need time to develop their gross motor skills. Children need to develop coordination in their shoulders before they start to develop coordination in their wrists and fingers. In Early Years, children are provided with a rich outdoor and indoor learning environment, with a range of apparatus and resources, which allow them to develop core strength, balance and coordination.

Below are some photos of the children having fun in our indoor movement area.

We were so excited to get a special visit from a real firefighter and his big red fire engine! The children loved hearing the siren blast and had so much fun spraying water with the hose. Everyone had a turn to climb inside the fire engine — it was such an amazing experience!

The children have really enjoyed learning all about the festival of Diwali. They expressed their creativity by making their own diva lamps using clay and playdough, and had lots of fun designing colourful Rangoli patterns with oil pastels and transient art materials. To celebrate, the children dressed up in bright, festive clothes and danced to traditional Diwali music — our classroom was full of colour, laughter, and light!
