Y1 Spring 2

A big well done to Harriet for continuing with her Science work at home. She planted and brought in a plant for each member of staff in class. I am so impressed Harriet, keep up the good work!

Wow! I am so impressed with the Easter egg designs the girls have completed. They all look so amazing!

We have lots of green fingers in Year One! We looked at how plants grow today in our Science lesson. We drew posters telling other people what things they need in order for their plants to grow.  Then we went outside and planted our own flowers in groups. We have plant monitors who will look after them weekly and then we will see who grows the best plant at the end. We hope to see beetroot and herbs.

We had so much fun at Harlow Carr! We learnt about the parts of a plant, how they grow and then even got to plant our own pea shoots. We can't wait to see how they grow.

We continued with our Science learning today. We thought about what didn't work with our boats yesterday and then chose new materials. Luckily, all of them worked and no water was let in! The winners were Hazall, Harriet and Marley who produced an amazing boat which was stable, dry and even had a roof on it to protect Arnold. Good work everyone.

As part of British Science week, we were given the task of making a boat for Arnold the elephant to go home in. We were given no instructions other than, go do! Once we made our creations, we tested them and found that there were quite a few leaks and even some broken ships...oh no! Back to the drawing board we go to see if we can use any other materials to help save Arnold.

A big well done to Scarlett for bringing in this amazing Science experiment that she completed at home! I was blown away with her knowledge and she explained it to the class wonderfully. We have a budding Scientist in the making!

As part of our PSHE learning, we learnt about feelings today and how they can look different on people. We sang a song to do with feelings and then had a matching game to complete!

We had lots of fun during World Book Week. We  had a zoom call with author Catherine, who wrote the story "Lovely little ladybirds." She taught us how to draw the main character, Besty. We then had a Reading for pleasure session with Year 4.

We received a letter this morning! It was from Plant man, he gave us some mysterious seeds and we had to plant them.  We had to predict what we thought the seeds might grow into. Then, we were given free reign to plant the seeds however we liked! We had to choose how much soil, the water content and where we stored it in class.

As part of our mastering number topic of odd and even, we created our own Mr Odd and Mrs Even! We were given outlines of people and had to decorate them using even odd or even numbers. So Mr Odd had 3 eyes, with Mrs Even having 12 fingers!

We had a road safety talk today. We learnt about how to cross the road safely, how we need to wear bright colours and hold our carer's hand when crossing. We also sang a fun song about it all at the end of the session!
