A very warm welcome to all our families!
It has been wonderful to see how well the children have settled into Reception. They have made such a fantastic start, and we are incredibly proud of them! 🌟
We are looking forward to the exciting journey ahead and to working in partnership with you to make this a happy, successful and memorable year for all our little learners.
Be sure to check back on this page to discover some of the fun and exciting things we are learning about in Reception this half term - this page will give you a little glimpse into the children's learning journey as they play, explore, discover and grow. 🌈🎨📚
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our Phonics-Themed Reading Café. The children loved practising their phonics skills, and taking part in a variety of interactive activities with their grown-ups! It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading and to celebrate the important role that families play in supporting children's literacy development. 📚❤️✨
We have been exploring repeating patterns in Mathematics through actions, movements and a variety of objects. The children have particularly enjoyed applying their learning through play, independently creating and extending patterns using different resources around the classroom.
Our Reception children have been making wonderful use of our autumn treasures!
With lots of children bringing in conkers collected during their autumn walks, we have been exploring fun, hands-on ways to use these natural resources in our learning.
The children loved carefully positioning the conkers within these activities, using their pincer grip.
These playful experiences help the children develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and control. 🌟
We loved playing a 'splat the sound' game outside today. The children went head to head to see who could splat the sound called out the fastest. It got very competitive!
The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our construction zone, where they have been inspired to design and create some fantastic models using a wide range of resources and construction blocks.
Through these hands-on experiences, the children have been developing their creativity, problem-solving skills and critical thinking as they experiment with different materials and explore how to bring their ideas to life.
It has been fantastic to see the children also develop their communication and teamwork skills by sharing ideas, discussing their plans and working collaboratively to build their creations.
The children have loved exploring autumn and noticing the seasonal changes around us.
They have been spotting colourful leaves, conkers, acorns and pine cones, and talking about how the trees are changing as the weather becomes cooler.
Inspired by their discoveries, the children decided to create an 'autumn village' in our small world area. They built a cosy village using houses, trees, pathways and natural autumn treasures. They enjoyed moving the little people around the village, creating stories about who lived there and imagining what the villagers might be doing as autumn arrives.
Today, we embraced the rain for a morning of exploration outdoors!
From jumping off a crate into a bubbly puddle to making magic potions, the children found plenty of ways to follow their curiosity.
Mixing powder paint became a colourful investigation as the children explored the primary colours of red, yellow and blue. Through their play, they discovered how to make orange, green and purple. The children enjoyed watching the colours change as they stirred and mixed, and the experimenting continued as they combined all the colours to create brown! They then used sweeping brushes to spread their colourful mixtures across the playground, making marks, patterns and trails on a wonderfully large scale.
Our creativity continued at the windows, where the children used paint to practise writing their sounds. This soon developed into experimenting with flicking paint onto the glass. “It looks like stars in space!” the children said. This observation took our play in a new direction, inspiring us to paint planets and create our very own colourful universe!
